With colored yarn and 5.5mm crochet hook.

Round 1: magic circle with 8sc (8)

Round 2: 2sc in each stitch (16)

Round 3: (1sc, inc) repeat (24)

Round 4: 1sc in each stitch (24)

Round 5: (1sc, inc) repeat (36)

Round 6: 1sc in each stitch (36)

Round 7: (2sc, inc) repeat (48)

Round 8: 1sc in each stitch (48)

Round 9: (11sc, inc) repeat (52)

Rounds 10-20: 1sc in each stitch (52)

Do not tie off, continue to first ear flap.

First Ear Flap: with colored yarn

Row 1: ch1, 11sc, ch1, turn (11)

Rows 2-4: 11sc, ch1, turn (11)

Row 5: dec, 7sc, dec, ch1, turn (9)

Row 6: dec, 5sc, dec, ch1, turn (7)

Row 7: dec, 3sc, dec, ch1, turn (5)

Row 8: dec, 1sc, dec (3)

Tie off and weave in ends.

Second Ear Flap: with colored yarn

Skip 19 stitches to the left of the first ear flap and attach yarn in 20th stitch.

Row 1: ch1, 11sc, ch1, turn (11)

Rows 2-4: 11sc, ch1, turn (11)

Row 5: dec, 7sc, dec, ch1, turn (9)

Row 6: dec, 5sc, dec, ch1, turn (7)

Row 7: dec, 3sc, dec, ch1, turn (5)

Row 8: dec, 1sc, dec (3)

Tie off and weave in ends.

Boarder:

Attach white yarn to one of the stitches at point of either ear flap, ch1 and single crochet in each stitch all the way around the hat, slip stitch in beginning stitch.

Tie off and weave in ends.

Ties:

1. Cut 6 strips of yarn measuring 19 inches.

2. Divide into 2 bundles of 3 strips each.

3. Using a hook, pull 1 bundle through one hole in the bottom edge of the ear flap.

4. Pull only one side of bundle through until two sides are even.

5. Divide into groups of 3.

6. Braid the three groups together, tying them at the bottom with a knot.

7. Trim the ends.

Repeat for the other ear flap, making sure you end the braids at the same length.

Finished hat should have a circumference of 13 - 15 inches.
