And moderately large pattern in which the shells alternate with open areas.

Multiple of 8 chain plus 3

Row 1: skip 2 chain, * 1 double crochet, chain 3, skipped 3 chain, 1 single crochet, chain 3, skipped 3 chain*, 1 double crochet, chain 3, turn.

Row 2: * 1 single crochet in 2nd chain of 3 chain group, chain 3, 1 single crochet in 2nd chain of next 3 chain group, chain 1, 1 double crochet in the double crochet, chain 1*, 1 double crochet in turning chain, chain 3, turn.

Row 3: * 7 double crochet in 3 chain space, 1 double crochet in the double crochet*, 1 double crochet in the turning chain, chain 3, turn.

Row 4: * chain 3, 1 single crochet in the center of the shell, chain 3, 1 double crochet in the double crochet*, 1 double crochet in the turning chain, chain 3, turn. 

Repeat from Row 2
